DBMM Army Lists Book 1 potential errata

Page history last edited by Rob Brennan 13 years, 6 months ago

Misc From Peter K

I/41 (Medes, Parsua et al.) has a number of anomlaies in its enemy list.

These have I/41 in their enemies list, but it isn't in the Medes enemies:

I/5 Early Susiana and Elam
I/35 Cyp and Phoen.
I/42 Neo Elam
I/44 Neo Bab

These are listed as enemies but not reciprocated.
I/30 Dark Age Greek (seems unlikely - Black Sea Colonies??? It isn't Jason - he
was earlier :) )
I/31 Neo-Hittite

I'd have also thought that I/41 should have I/41 as an enemy. Even if there were
no civil wars this covers a numbering of neighbouring states and I doubt the
Medes achieved preeminence only through sweet talk.

4 Zagros and Anatolian Highlanders

What generals should be used for an aarkadian ally of the gutti between 2193 and 2112BC (list1/11 does not exist in this sub-period)

1. Lists are allowed outside date ranges if specified.

2. The later CvI/Bw option is available to only 3rd Dyn of Ur whereas the

earlier KnI/CvI/BdF are available to any army from this list so including

"Sumero-Akkadians".

At least that is how I'd rule in the absence of other evidence.

List 5 Early Susianna and Elam

post 1400BC option. You can upgrade the CinC and allies to Reg Cv, but not the sub general

List 6 Early Bedouin

At one point, it was "from 1500...", and I can't on a very brief search see anything in the archive on why it should have changed.

List 11 Third Dynasty of Ur

1. There is a contradiction - Third Dynasty of Ur from 2112 to 2004 BC has CinC and Subs on straddle cars, while from 2028BC all subs become ally generals. Which should it be from 2028?

2. There are no generals between 2193 - 2112 BC

If you look at the dates at the top of the list you will see that the list does

not exist between 2193 - 2112 BC, it covers 2 distinct periods:

* akkadian 2334-2193BC

* 3rd Dyn of Ur 2112-2004BC

This is unusual but also occurs in other lists. This has implications for allies drawn from this list in this period eg by the Gutti (list 1/4)

14 Early Northern Barbarian

Army No 14 Early Northern Barbarian lists 1/24 as one of its enemies.

However Army No 24 Hittite Empire does not list 1/14 as one of its enemies.

I think original list 14 was suppose to be Phrygians (Mushki) invading Anatolia but they got moved to list 4.

15 Later Amorite

The correct AP cost for Sabum qallatum Reg Ax (I) is 3 AP not 2 AP.

24 Hittite Empire

It's clear that Syrian and Bedouin vassal troops must be commanded by a

Syrian vassal general if such is present. It's not so clear whether such a

restriction applies to troops named as Ugaritic if either the Syrian general

or troops are upgraded to Ugaritic

27 Early Hebrew

The AP cost for sub-generals as Ps (S) should be 13 AP.

32 Western Chou and Spring and Autumn Chinese

Only from 700 BC: has "Archers - Irr Ps (O) [can support Bd (F) or Irr Bw

(I) @ 3 AP"

This is missing the Ps AP and a bracket and should be:

"Archers - Irr Ps (O) @ 2 AP [can support Bd (F)] or Irr Bw (I) @ 3 AP"

44 Neo-Babylon

The list has date range "746 BC - 482 BC". in the header. In the list there are restrictions to this to cover the main empire and subeequent revolts against Persia. It would be good to have the sepeate ranges in the header in the same manner as the Early Sumarian list.

45 Neo-Assyrian Empire

Zuk shepe footguards are available for the dates "before 704 BC" and "after

704 BC" thus excluding 704 BC. The first of these dates should be changed

to "before 703 BC".

48 Thracian

A lowland subbie converted to Irr Ax (S) should be 14AP.

Not errors as such, but 16 and 3 are odd maxima for Pk (F) and Hd (I) respectively.

51 Later Sargonid Assyrian

The Later Sargonid Assyrian list also has:

Only after 627 BC:
...
Egyptian allies - List: Saitic Egyptian (Bk 1/53)

Only in 609 BC:
Egyptian allies - List: Saitic Egyptian (Bk 1/53)

The "Only in 609 BC" entry is unnecessary because the "Only after 627 BC" entry
already allows Saitic allies to be fielded in 609 BC.

53 Saitic Egyptian

The Saitic Egyptian list includes non-compulsory Ionian, Karian or other Greek
mercenary hoplites. Thus these hoplites cannot be used in an allied contingent
unless specified otherwise in the list notes, and the list notes do not do so.
It is therefore odd to find the following in the Later Sargonid Assyrian list:

Only before 650 BC:
Egyptian vassal allies - List: Saitic Egyptian (Bk 1/53) [cannot include Greek
mercenaries]

The "[cannot include Greek mercenaries]" is, in effect, stating that troops that
cannot be included cannot be included. What gives? Perhaps the intention was
for a Saitic Egyptian ally to normally be able to include Greek mercenaries. If
so, the Saitic list needs a note added to that effect.

Incidentally, an irritating feature of a Saitic allied contingent is that it
must have and can only have 1 element of Reg Sp (O) Guard spearmen. This is
sub-optimal for a troop type that relies on rear support. I suggest adding a
list note of either "Allied contingents drawn from this list need not include
otherwise compulsory Guard spearmen" or "Allied contingents drawn from this list
may include up to 2 elements of Guard spearmen."

62 Lykian

Johnwedmundson    Date: Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:17 pm ((PST)):

I noticed that

Lykian hoplites are Irr Sp (O) @ 3AP. Should this be Irr Sp(I) @ 3AP or

Irr Sp(O) @ 4AP? I'm guessing Sp(O) but I'm sure someone actually knows.

64 Early Japanese

Irr Bge (S) should be 3AP.

Yayoi generals can't be upgraded with big shield to Bw (O) or Pk (X). They probably should.
